GetTested’s Microplastics Test analyses your blood for microplastic particles smaller than 30 micrometers. These can enter the body through food, water, air, or skin contact. The result shows the total number of particles and their distribution across three size categories, providing insight into your internal exposure to microplastics.

Microplastics are microscopic plastic particles that can enter the human body through food, drinking water, air, or even skin contact. They have been found in seafood, table salt, bottled water, household dust, and many other everyday sources. Recent research has confirmed their presence in human blood, raising concerns about their potential effects on health.
GetTested’s Microplastics Test analyses a small blood sample to detect and count microplastic particles smaller than 30 micrometers. Your result includes both the total number of detected particles and their distribution across three size categories:
• Less than 10 µm
• 10–20 µm
• 20–30 µm
This provides a detailed picture of your internal microplastic exposure.
This test is suitable for anyone who wants to assess their exposure to microplastics. Whether you are health-conscious, environmentally aware, or simply curious about the presence of plastic particles in your body, this test can offer unique insights.
Currently, there are no official reference ranges that define what is considered a "normal" or "elevated" level of microplastics in blood. However, your result will include a graph showing how your values compare to a reference population of more than 1,000 tested individuals, providing helpful context for interpretation.
The test is collected at home using a finger prick. For accurate sampling, we include a metal lancet, which minimizes the risk of introducing plastic particles during collection. However, we are aware that the metal lancet may feel a bit uncomfortable to use. Therefore, we also include standard lancets as an alternative.
If you choose to use a plastic lancet, please note that there may be a small risk of sample contamination. That said, our internal comparisons have not shown any significant contamination effect in practice.
After collecting your sample, simply place it in the prepaid return envelope provided and send it to our laboratory. Your digital results will be available within 10–15 business days after the lab has received your sample.
